This is one of the largest paintings I've tackled in quite some time, and it's been a rewarding challenge!  The subject is three Camargue horses.

The Camargue horse is one of the oldest breeds in the world, native to the marshlands of southern France where the Rhône River meets the Mediterranean Sea. Living semi-wild in family herds, these horses are born dark and gradually lighten to their signature grey-white coat by adulthood. Sturdy, sure-footed, and deeply connected to the land they inhabit, they have roamed the Camargue for centuries largely unchanged. To see them running free along the coastline, manes flying in the salt wind, is to witness something ancient and untamed. It's no wonder they've inspired artists for generations.
